Your First Visit: What to Expect

A first dental visit should feel calm and unhurried. Here is exactly what happens when you come to see us, so there are no surprises.

If it has been a while since your last dental visit, or if you simply feel nervous about seeing a new dentist, you are not alone. A lot of our favorite patients told us they put off care for years before they found a practice that felt right. So here is exactly what happens at a first visit, start to finish, so you know what to expect before you walk in.

Before you arrive

We will send you a secure link to complete your health history and insurance details ahead of time. Filling these out at home means less paperwork in the waiting room and more time to talk about what matters to you. If you would rather do it in the office, that is completely fine too. Just arrive about ten minutes early.

Bring your insurance card and a photo ID, and a list of any medications you take. If you have dental records or X-rays from a previous dentist, we are happy to receive those, but we can also take our own.

Getting to know you

Your first visit is a conversation before it is anything else. We want to understand your goals, any concerns you have, and what your past experiences have been like. If something has made you anxious in the past, tell us. It helps us take better care of you.

The exam and cleaning

For most new patients, a first visit includes:

  • A gentle, thorough cleaning with one of our hygienists
  • Digital X-rays, taken only as needed, with very low radiation
  • A full exam by your dentist, including an oral cancer screening
  • A look at your gums, bite, and any areas you have asked about

We will show you what we see, often right on the screen, so nothing is a mystery. If we find something that needs attention, we will explain your options clearly and give you an honest recommendation. If everything looks healthy, we will tell you that too.

Building a plan around you

If any treatment is recommended, you will leave with a clear plan and an up-front estimate. There is never pressure to decide on the spot. Many patients like to go home, think it over, and call us with questions. That is exactly how it should work.

A calm experience, start to finish

We built this practice to feel welcoming, not clinical. If you need breaks, prefer a certain time of day, or want a family member with you, just ask. Our whole goal is that you leave your first visit thinking that was easier than I expected.

When you are ready, request an appointment and we will find a time that works for you.
